Join us on… SATURDAY October 25, 2014 >> 11:30am to 2pm ~ Monthly Antiwar Rally & Petition Campaign >> 3:30pm to 7pm ~ Antiwar Conference “The New Era of War & Occupation: Which Road to Peace in the Middle East and North Africa?” >> 8pm ~ MAWO’een Cultural Evening! = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = As MAWO approaches our 11th anniversary, it is a critical time for the antiwar movement to act against the new war on Iraq and the expansion of imperialist military aggression against Syria. The U.S. and their imperialist allies claim to be helping rid Iraq of the terrorist group ISIS/ISIL, while a closer look reveals that the U.S. fueled the rise of sectarianism under their occupation of Iraq, funded and armed ISIS/ISIL for the last three years in Syria, and has manufactured this new terrorist group to justify yet another war. The people of Iraq have already had 11 years of a US-led war and occupation to know what kind of brutality is possible under imperialist occupation. The horrific occupation has killed an estimated 1.8 million since 2003, destroyed incredible amounts of infrastructure, and tortured unknown thousands. Now the U.S., with the support of Canada, France, Britain, Australia, the Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium have launched hundreds of airstrikes on Iraq. The U.S. is also leading airstrikes on Syria with the support of their allies including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and recently the use of Turkey’s military bases. As of last Tuesday October 7th the government of Canada has also expanded their support from special operations troops and logistical support to six CF-18 fighters, two surveillance aircrafts, an air-to-air tanker and 600 military personal to take part in airstrikes on Iraq. In the last 11 years since MAWO formed, we have been organizing consistently against the New Era of War and Occupation that the U.S. and their imperialist allies have launched since September 11th 2001. MAWO has come out onto the streets against the war and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq, raised voices to demand self-determination for Palestine, campaigned against imperialist intervention in Libya and throughout Africa, demanded an end to sanctions on Iran and an end to foreign imperialist meddling from Syria to Ukraine to Venezuela. From the struggles against wars abroad, MAWO has always also connected these to the war at home, where Indigenous nations are still fighting for their self-determination and where poor and working people are under attack by imperialist governments. Recognizing that an effective antiwar movement needs to be built with united and international cooperation, the last 11 years of work has taken MAWO’s organizing from local communities to international events, always seeking creative ways to build and advance the antiwar movement. Estados Unidos y sus aliados imperialistas repetidamente nos señalan que trabajan de manera conjunta para liberar a Irak de la organización terrorista Estado Islámico (EI). Sin embargo, si miramos hacia atrás, es evidente que Estados Unidos contribuyó al ascenso del sectarismo durante la ocupación del país, financiado y armado al Estado Islámico en los últimos tres años en Siria, fabricando así un nuevo grupo terrorista para justificar otra guerra. El pueblo de Irak ha sufrido 11 años de guerra y ocupación imperialista liderada por Estados Unidos. Lo anterior ha costado la vida a mas de 1.8 millones de personas desde el 2003, destrucción deliberada de la infraestructura civil y miles de torturados. Ahora Estados Unidos con el apoyo de Canadá, Francia, Gran Bretaña, Australia, los Países Bajos, Dinamarca y Bélgica han lanzado cientos de ataques aéreos contra Irak. Asimismo, Estados Unidos está liderando los ataques aéreos en Siria con el apoyo de sus aliados como Arabia Saudita, Emiratos Árabes Unidos, Bahréin, Qatar , Jordania y, recientemente, ha podido disponer de bases militares en Turquía. Desde el pasado martes, 7 de octubre, el gobierno de Canadá ha ampliado su apoyo a la coalición con seis cazas CF-18 Hornet, dos aviones de vigilancia, un avión cisterna y 600 miembros del personal militar para participar en ataques aéreos en Irak. Desde que MAWO se formó, en los últimos 11 años nos hemos estado organizando sistemáticamente contra la nueva era de guerra y ocupación que los Estados Unidos y sus aliados imperialistas han puesto en marcha desde el 11 de septiembre de 2001. MAWO ha salido a protestar contra la guerra y la ocupación de Afganistán e Irak, ha levantado la voz para exigir la autodeterminación de Palestina, hizo campaña contra la intervención imperialista en Libia y en toda África, ha exigido fin a las sanciones contra Irán y a la injerencia imperialista extranjera desde Siria hasta Ucrania y Venezuela. Desde las luchas contra las guerras en el extranjero, MAWO siempre ha conectado estas temáticas para hablar de la guerra que se vive en nuestro propio país, donde las naciones indígenas siguen luchando por su autodeterminación, y donde la gente pobre y trabajadora están siendo atacados por los gobiernos imperialistas. Reconociendo que un movimiento contra la guerra efectivo tiene que ser construido con la cooperación unida e internacional, MAWO ha contado con la participación de las comunidades locales para la organización de eventos internacionales, siempre buscando nuevas formas creativas para construir y avanzar en el movimiento contra la guerra. ¡Únete a MAWO en este día de acción, marcando 11 años de educación continua, organización y movilización para exigir: "Estados Unidos / Francia / Canadá y todas las potencias imperialistas no intervenir en Irak y Siria!"
