What is Behind the US-Israeli War Drive in Gaza & Lebanon?
Organized by: Mobilization Against War & Occupation
Report >>
On August 18 Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO) organized a forum to discuss this latest US-Israeli War Drive and the slew of questions that came up following the Aug 14th "ceasefire" in Lebanon. Given the urgent situation, the forum attracted over 80 people, who squeezed in to hear a interesting and inspiring panel of speakers.
The forum panel included Dr Warif Leila, a activist and organizer against the attack on Lebanon; Mohammed Afzal Malik, President of the Canadian Muslim Alliance; Mazen Fawaz, Lebanese student living in Vancouver; and Ivan Drury, organizer with MAWO.
Throughout the panel it was clearly asserted that this so-called ceasefire is not an end to Israeli attacks. It was explained as a pause in war, which will undoubtably be followed by more severe attack. It was also pointed out by panelists that Israel failed in this endevor to destroy Hezbollah and destroy the anti-Israel, anti-occupation resistance movement.
The discussion that follwed was dynamic and interesting, with a variety of perspectives, comments and questions. The forum concluded on a note emphasising further action in defence of Lebanon and all oppressed people, against the era of war and occupation.
