August 23, 2011
In the early morning of August 22nd, 2011, federal leader of the New Democratic Party, Jack Layton, lost his battle with cancer. Jack Layton had a long life in progressive politics, in which he contributed with his strong leadership to his party's progress and success. Mr. Layton's contributions were also strongly felt in various progressive and social justice causes in Canada.
When our own co-chair, Alison Bodine, who is an American citizen, was politically targeted by the Canadian Border Services Agency in the fall of 2007, Jack Layton gave Alison’s case support to fight for her democratic and human rights.
Mobilization Against War and Occupation offers our sincere condolences to both Jack Layton's family, and to all NDP members.
